Lawnmap Hong Kong

Lawnmap

Tired of the signs “Keep Off The Grass”? Here are infos of lawns in Hong Kong you’re entitled to enjoy, from the government parks to wild grasslands. You can contribute to Lawnmap by providing the location and photos with simple description.

Without freezing air-con, you can freely breathe on these lawns. Do play or meditate, walk or jog, sketch or take nice pics, sing or dance or perform….whatever you like.

There’s Grass-Fest of film or music in different parts of the world, from Western countries to Taiwan and Mainland. We’re hoping the delightful atmosphere can spread to Hong Kong.

You can also share different moments on the grass by words, photos or clips, with or without substance. We treasure the urban green zones as well as their stories.

How to collaborate

Go to our TAG LAWNS session, choose the Lawnmap icon and add a placemark on it. Write the related infos on the map and save. If you are not familiar with Google Map, click the gear wheel on the top right corner for simple instructions.

Anticipation

This project will soon develop into a long-term website for enthusiastic response. Smartphone Apps (i.e. iPhones/Android) would be developed in the near future too.

Offline publications of Lawnmap would be printed in the future, to share the joy of green among concrete.

10 Years of Fotanian: Open Studios 2011

10 Years of Fotanian: Open Studios 2011

Despite claims of the fall of industrial estates, Fotanians celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Fotanian: Open studios event. Accordingly, the theme this year is “Ten Years of Fotanian”. The number of studios and artists involved has hit a record high this year and there will be plenty of exhilarating cultural events throughout the year. The Fotanian community has developed from a handful of art studios to a community of 70+ studios ran by artists of all disciplines, not to mention the international artists who have been attracted by this unique community and decided to settle here. Ten years ago, the open studio event did not receive much public attention, but it has grown and flourished – it has now become the highlight of the city’s cultural calendar, with the number of visitors increasing every year.

Hong Kong Whispers is a group exhibition, which addresses the cultural and historical relationship between Hong Kong and the UK. Proposing a definition of an art exhibition analogous to a game of Chinese Whispers. The exhibition explores the miscommunications that happen in cross cultural art exhibition, and attempts to create a space in which meanings can be discussed, debated, and challenged.

Hong Kong Whispers is curated by Anthony Elliott, who developed the project from an interest in the continuing issues raised by cultural imperialism, which are being shaped and challenged by new technologies of communication and political movements.

Logo Redevelopment Series (2) – Champagne HK

[20/20] @ Experimentica 2010

Sat 16 Oct • 2.30pm • Sad 16 Hyd

Videotage (literally merging the two concepts of video and montage) is an interdisciplinary artistcollective which focuses on the development of video and new media art in Hong Kong. Founded in 1986, Videotage’s support to artists came in the form of labour and equipment for production and post-production, and the exchange of ideas. Videotage has since expanded to include publications, education, exhibitions and screenings.

For Experimentica, curator Alvis Choi presents an overview of video works from Hong Kong over the past twenty years. The programme explores the cross-generational difference between those in their 20s, born in the ‘80s, often seen as a politically apathetic, “not caring” generation, and those who were in their 20s during the political activism of the 1980s. The films reflect the role of the independent music scene in Hong Kong video art, and demonstrate how one generation quietly influenced another and how a sense of social and political observation has continued to evolve throughout the Hong Kong art scene.

Presented with the support of Hong Kong Arts Development Council and the British Council.
